I did wake up early but I went back to bed… then I proceeded to hike 13 ish miles, mostly on ridgeline. It was hot. Hot, hot, hot. I was so happy to get to a spring and rinse my head multiple times with cold water, and wash my shirt and buff. That helped cool me off a lot. Then just .3 miles later we got trail magic from Pat, Gene, Diana and Don. Hot dogs, soda, potato salad, macaroni salad, peanut butter fudge, cookies and more. Then someone else showed up with two pizzas. We were originally planning on doing a 17 mile day but the food plus the pretty creek convinced me to stay.
Oh yeah and last night around 11:30, I woke up to someone yelling “noooo!” in a terrified voice. I was freaked out. I woke up Carpenter and then we heard him yell “get away! Do you hear me? Get away!” It was the one hiker staying at the shelter which we were camped near. We thought he was yelling at a bear. Then we heard the hiker walking up to our camp. He was shaken and asked for a headlamp and if he could camp near us. He said he heard scratching on the shelter. I told him it was probably porcupines. He went back and checked it out then decided to stay in there for the night. I would have been scared too if I was alone in the shelter. More fun on the AT!
I’m really tired. It’s amazing how much I can sleep. The heat really takes it out of me. It didn’t rain last night. We heard thunder today but didn’t get rain. More hot weather in store for the rest of the week.
